ABOUT
Manuel Fernández-Bared is a shareholder and director at TCM and leads the firm’s litigation practice. Before joining TCM, he clerked for Chief Judge Gilberto Gierbolini-Ortiz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and later became a partner in the Litigation Department of one of Puerto Rico’s largest firms. In law school, he served as a teaching assistant and as an associate editor of the University of Puerto Rico Law Review.
With more than thirty-eight years of experience, Mr. Fernández-Bared handles complex commercial disputes, including workouts and collections, distribution agreements and related litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, intellectual property, contract disputes, and arbitration and mediation proceedings. He has served—both as lead counsel—and as lead local counsel to prominent national and international law firms—in many large bankruptcies and high-stakes commercial cases.
He has delivered numerous seminars on debt collection, foreclosures, and bankruptcy law, and for over twenty-five years was a lecturer and training resource in bankruptcy review workshops for the federal bar exam course. For more than a decade, he has served as lead local counsel to a group of institutional bondholder funds in the PROMESA restructuring proceedings of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority and other Puerto Rico public entities.
